GRAND RAPIDS, MICH - Former Lowell Mayor Charles Myers announced his endorsement of Michigan Congressional Candidate Trevor Thomas just ahead of the Michigan primary on August 7th. Mayor Myers began serving on the Planning Commission in 1990, and served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2000 to 2005 and Mayor from 2006 to 2007. He currently serves as Board Chair and Trustee of the Kent District Library, and formerly was Board Chair and Trustee of the State Library of Michigan.
"Trevor is committed to West Michigan and he'll fight for policies that make sense." said Mayor Myers. "He's got my backing because he'll fight for what's right, and he'll be a true advocate for the people of West Michigan and our communities."
"I am grateful for Mayor Myers' support, and for his leadership in West Michigan," said Trevor Thomas. "He knows the needs of our local community, and he knows that we need to nominate a Democrat who will take the fight to Rep. Amash, and who will fight for West Michigan in Congress."
Thomas was previously endorsed by Ionia Mayor Dan Balice, former Grand Rapids City Commissioner Mary Alice Williams, former Kent County Commissioner Paul Mayhue, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, former Lt. Gov. John Cherry. In the last week, Thomas has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the National Organization for Women and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. He also has the support of former West Michigan Congressional Candidate Fred Johnson (D-MI), Bob Eleveld, IBEW Local 275,Earlier this week, Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced the endorsement of Thomas. The news follows the support of Democracy for America Michigan, and the Progressive Women's Alliance of West Michigan, Cate Edwards, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree and former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy.
